Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain today visited the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) to oversee the hospital and its services. State Minister Dr. M A Muhit accompanied him during the visit.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the inspection, the ministers expressed dissatisfaction over various irregularities, including the presence of bedbugs on patients’ beds, the absence of doctors, and the quality of food supplied to patients. They interacted with patients and relevant officials during their visit.
The health minister stated that the government is committed to ensuring proper services in the health sector. He announced plans to revisit the hospital within the next few days, warning that strict action would be taken if any irregularities are found.
State Minister Dr. M A Muhit highlighted a leadership crisis as a major issue at the hospital, despite it being the country’s highest mental health facility. He emphasized the need to address the mismanagement problems quickly and warned that no irregularities or mismanagement would be tolerated.
