The High Court today set tomorrow to pass order on a plea of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in a case lodged over alleged corruption by former president HM Ershad in purchasing radar for the Air Force during his tenure.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan set the date after conclusion of hearing on the matter.
ACC filed the petition with the High Court as lower court on November 8 dismissed its plea to record the depositions of the witnesses afresh.
The now-defunct Anti-Corruption Bureau on May 4, 1992, filed the case against the Jatiya Party leader for causing a loss of more than Taka 64 crore to state exchequer by buying a substandard radar from the US on higher price instead of buying a more modern version from France.
The charge sheet was given in the case on October 27, 1994. The lower court examined 12 out of the total 38 witnesses in the trial. But the ACC filed the plea to examine the witnesses afresh for the sake of justice.
