Hajj pre-registration begins from Jan 15 next: Religious Minister

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2016 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman today said the pre-registration process of hajj those who are interested to perform their Hajj will begin January 15 next.

"The government has taken all necessary steps to complete the pre-registration process in a smooth manner," he said while inaugurating a training programme for the officers, employees, agents and other concerned with registration process at the Airport Ashkona Hajj Camp here.

The minister said in line with the Saudi Arabia government, Bangladesh government has introduced the Hajj e-service for the first time.

"Last year 1.40 lakh people were registered with the process while 108,029 pilgrims performed their hajj in 2016," Rahman said adding that the rest of the registered people would get priority to perform hajj next year.

"This time we would be able to send over one lakh Hajjis for Saudi Arabia this year," he hoped.

The pre-registration programme is under the Hajj E-Services at the religious ministry, but the fees both government and private arrangements for the Hajj pre-registration is yet to fix till date, said a spokesman of the ministry.

Hajj pre-registration will require such documents as national Identity Cards (IDs), passport-sized photographs, mobile phone numbers and machine-readable passports (MRPs).

Besides, those under 18 years of age may submit copies of their birth certificates along with their guardians' national IDs.

Religious ministry secretary Mohammad Abdul Jalil, joint secretary Mohammad Jakir Ahmed, Director of Dhaka Hajj Office Dr. Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, chief executive of Business Automation Limited Jahidul Islam Mitul and M Fazlul Haque Biswas, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
