Dhaka: The government today announced the transfer of two deputy inspectors general (DIGs), seven additional DIGs, and 13 superintendents of police (SPs) as part of a significant reshuffle within the police administration and field-level bureaucracy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a home ministry notification detailed the transfer of Khulna metropolitan police commissioner, Md Zulfikar Ali Haider, a DIG by rank, to the position of Industrial Police chief with the same rank. His position in Khulna will be filled by the Gazipur metropolitan police's additional commissioner, who has been elevated to the rank of DIG.
Additionally, the notification outlined the transfer of Jesmin Begum, an additional DIG in the Sylhet range, to the River Police with the same status. Wahidul Haq Chowdhury, additional DIG of the Chattogram range, has been reassigned as the additional commissioner of Chattogram metropolitan police. Moreover, Rajshahi metropolitan police's additional commissioner Nazmul Hasan is set to join the Chattogram Range as an additional DIG. Sylhet metropolitan police's additional commissioner M Masud Rana has been transferred to the Rapid Action Battalion as an additional DIG.
The reshuffle also affects other high-ranking officials. Mohammad Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, a supernumerary joint commissioner equivalent to an additional DIG of Dhaka metropolitan police, will now serve the Anti Terrorism Unit as an SP. SMP's supernumerary additional commissioner, Md Tarek Ahmed, moves to the Special Branch as an SP. Similarly, supernumerary additional DIG at Police Headquarters, Md Al Mamun, is reassigned to Rajshahi metropolitan police as a deputy commissioner.
The home ministry also reversed a previous transfer order for Samrat Mohammad Abu Sufian, SP of Special Branch, allowing him to remain in his current position instead of moving to Police Headquarters.
Additional transfers include Chattogram range SP Kazi Md Abdur Rahim to Chattogram metropolitan police as a deputy commissioner, while PHQ SP Sakhawat Hossain moves to the criminal investigation department with the same status. Others reassigned include officers to the Police Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Investigation Department, and other specialized units.
Home ministry deputy secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman, who signed the transfer orders, confirmed that these changes will take immediate effect.
