Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today said the government would request INTERPOL to issue red notices to arrest and bring back fugitives, including Sheikh Hasina, accused of involving in the killings and genocide committed during the student-led mass-uprising in July and August. “The step to issue the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) red notice will be taken soon,” he said while talking to newsmen after inspecting renovation works of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) building here this morning.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the law adviser responded to a query about an alleged petition filed at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague against individuals, including the Chief Adviser, stating that the plea was filed to mislead the global opinion. “The government is not taking the Awami League’s complaint to the ICC into account; the legal advisor said that the Awami League has filed the complaint against the government to u
ndermine the country’s dignity. There is no reason for the complaint to be accepted in any way,” he added.

Dr Asif Nazrul further elaborated that the petition filed is not an actual case but merely a written submission to the ICC prosecution office, which any individual can do. He dismissed the complaint as unbelievable and pointless, suggesting there is no reason for it to be turned into a writ. He accused the fascist quarter of filing the petition to mislead global opinion and confuse the country’s people.

Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam commented that steps will be taken to bring the Awami League to justice as a party if the government provides direction in this regard.
