Monohardi:Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain announced an initiative to recruit 25,000 midwives to bolster women's healthcare and extend health services to marginalized communities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized the critical role midwives will play in remote areas for early detection of breast and cervical cancers, along with raising health awareness and providing necessary counseling and advice.
The announcement was made during a program for distributing sewing machines to disadvantaged and destitute women and working women at Monohardi Government Pilot Model High School. The minister highlighted that early detection and appropriate treatment significantly increase recovery chances for breast and cervical cancers.
Sakhawat outlined plans to introduce counseling programs for female students and teachers at both public and private levels to raise breast cancer awareness. Additionally, a vaccination program has been launched at the secondary-school level to prevent cervical cancer.
Discussing international relations and national sovereignty, Sakhawat stated that while Bangladesh seeks friendships globally, it will not accept domination over its territory. He asserted the government's commitment to safeguarding the country's security, independence, and sovereignty.
The event was chaired by Monohardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahamudul Hasan and attended by several local officials and community leaders. The minister later distributed sewing machines and fruit saplings to 300 recipients.
