Dhaka:Biman Bangladesh Airlines has initiated an inquiry into a technical fault that occurred on its Narita-Dhaka flight, which was carrying the Prime Minister and his entourage on October 29. A four-member committee has been established to conduct the investigation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee is required to present its findings to the airline's managing director and chief executive officer within four working days. The technical fault was detected before the flight BG 377 departed from Japan's Narita International Airport.

The committee is led by Biman's chief of planning and scheduling and includes the manager of legal affairs as the member secretary. Other members are the chief engineer of engineering production and the deputy chief of flight safety. Their mandate is to determine the cause and nature of the fault and to evaluate the technical and operational steps taken to address it, ensuring the aircraft's readiness for subsequent flights.

Additionally, the investigation will consider the delay caused by the fault, the additional operating costs, passenger inconvenience, and the impact on Biman's reputation. The committee is tasked with examining responsibilities to identify any negligence or procedural lapses and to establish accountability.

Recommendations will be made to prevent future occurrences, and the committee is authorized to include any Biman official as necessary. The directive, signed by Biman Director of Administration and Human Resources Air Commodore Md Niamul Kabir, is effective immediately.
