Chattogram:Thousands of visitors are flocking to Chattogram Zoo daily to experience its 520 animals across 62 species. The zoo sees a significant increase in footfall on weekends and holidays as families, students, and tourists explore its expansive grounds.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, recent developments at the zoo include plans for a natural mini aviary, guided by the district administration. The aviary, which will span 60 feet by 25 feet and cost Tk 50 lakh, is set to house 200 birds from six different species, including lovebirds, laughing doves, pheasants, ringneck parakeets, cockatiels, and macaws.

The zoo offers more than just avian attractions, with visitors able to observe lions, crocodiles, deer, bears, pythons, and monkeys. Aviary enclosures also feature eagles, vultures, herons, egrets, kites, and greater adjutant storks, enhancing the diverse wildlife experience.

Efforts to improve zoo facilities are ongoing, with ticket revenue reinvested into enhancing visitor amenities and animal welfare. Recent upgrades include a grand entrance gate, modern public restrooms, shaded seating, colorful murals, an enlarged kids' play zone, improved internal roads with fresh landscaping, and surveillance cameras installed at strategic locations.

Sharif Uddin, a former Member Secretary of the Executive Committee and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), announced that a 3,600-square-foot multipurpose building will open within the next month. Built at a cost of Tk 1.34 crore, it will serve as a hub for animal medical storage, feed processing, and staff facilities. Furthermore, six zebras are expected to arrive from Gazipur Safari Park in December, adding to the zoo's growing collection of animals.
