Dhaka: If the government’s usual activities are hindered, making it impossible for it to perform its responsibilities, it will take necessary decisions involving the country’s people, said the council of advisers today. “The interim government embodies the mass expectations of the July uprising,” said a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing after a meeting of the council of advisers.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the council stated that if the government’s uniqueness, reform initiatives, judicial process, fair elections, and usual activities are hindered, the government will take the necessary decisions involving the people. An unscheduled meeting of the Council of Advisers was held today after the weekly meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The meeting, held at the Planning Commission in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of the capital, was chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. It discussed in detail the three main responsibilities of the interim government and how the normal working environment is being disrupted. The meeting also addressed the doubts and suspicions being created in the public mind by various unreasonable demands, motivated statements, and unauthorized programs.

The council of advisers emphasized that a greater consensus is needed to keep the country stable, advance the election, ensure justice and reforms, and permanently prevent the return of dictatorship in the country, according to the statement. It also mentioned that the interim government will listen to the statements of the political parties and clarify its position on these matters.

Despite facing numerous obstacles, the interim government is committed to performing its responsibilities and ignoring the interests of different quarters. The statement concluded by asserting that if the government’s responsibilities are made impossible by the instigation of defeated forces and as part of foreign conspiracy, it will present all the reasons before the country’s people to make the next decision.
