Dhaka: Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, today criticized the development of digital infrastructure in Bangladesh, stating that it resembles a network of “digital islands” rather than a cohesive “Digital Bangladesh.”

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Taiyeb expressed these views during the inauguration ceremony of Land Fair-2025 and a discussion meeting held at the capital’s Bhumi Bhaban. He highlighted that over the past 15 years, Bangladesh has been frequently branded as “Digital Bangladesh,” but instead, isolated digital systems have emerged, with interconnectivity established among these isolated systems.

Taiyeb emphasized the ongoing digital transformation spearheaded by the Ministry of Land, which is integrating separate digital services into a unified platform. This integration is aimed at accelerating the pace of digital transformation, focusing on transforming ministries and departments and utilizing a platform named “Citizen Services” chosen by the Chief Adviser.

He outlined that land surveys will employ GPS and geo-fencing technology, enabling landowners to monitor survey activities through Google Earth. In the subsequent phase, this survey data will be linked to land ownership records, legal case statuses, and revenue collection details, allowing comprehensive land information to be accessed through a single digital gateway with a mapped interface.

Taiyeb asserted that the successful implementation of this initiative would signify the true realization of digitalization. The event was attended by ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, Chairman of Land Reforms Board AJM Salauddin Nagri, and Chairman of Land Appeal Board Muhammad Ibrahim. Additional Secretary Md Emdadul Haque Chowdhury also presented on the overall activities of the Land Ministry.
