Govt to Establish National Emergency Operation Center with Chinese Assistance

Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, has announced plans to establish a comprehensive National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) to centrally coordinate disaster management activities. The announcement came during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, who paid a courtesy call on the adviser at the secretariat, according to a press release from the ministry.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser confirmed that the NEOC would soon begin operations with financial and technical support from the Chinese government. A memorandum of understanding has already been signed between Bangladesh and China to facilitate this collaboration.



The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss various aspects of disaster management and to highlight the enduring friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and China. The adviser expressed optimism about Chinese support in constructing two additional regional NEOC-cum-warehouses in Chattogram and Sylhet, aimed at enhancing emergency disaster response and relief logistics.



The Chinese envoy conveyed China’s readiness to assist Bangladesh in disaster relief and reconstruction efforts. The adviser welcomed this proposal, acknowledging China as a key partner in Bangladesh’s disaster management initiatives. The discussions also emphasized the significance of mutual cooperation, training, and exchange of expertise between the two nations.



The meeting was attended by Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Mostafizur Rahman, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy Ge Xiaofeng, Third Secretary Bai Zhaxi, and senior officials from the ministry.
