Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that the government has undertaken comprehensive measures to guarantee that sellers of sacrificial animal rawhide receive fair prices during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury made this statement following a meeting dedicated to improving the management of cattle markets and the sale of rawhide at his ministry office in the Bangladesh Secretariat. He emphasized the importance of ensuring fair prices for rawhide, highlighting that it is a right for the underprivileged, as rawhide from sacrificial animals is predominantly donated to madrasas and orphanages.
The Home Adviser pointed out that these institutions often do not receive a just price for the rawhide. To address this, the ministries of commerce and industries have been collaborating to balance market demand and supply, thereby ensuring fair pricing during Eid-ul-Azha. Additionally, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has implemented measures to regulate the influx of rawhide into the capital’s markets, preventing all rawhides from entering on a single day.
Furthermore, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury revealed that the government has authorized the export of rawhide to international markets as a strategy to secure fair pricing. The Commerce Ministry has initiated communication with China to facilitate the export of rawhide to the country, aiming to broaden the market and stabilize prices.
