Joypurhat: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today emphasized that the current interim government has taken unprecedented steps to secure the nation’s rawhides sector, unlike any previous administrations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir highlighted the government’s initiatives during a visit to a rawhide Arat in Arafatnagar. He detailed the distribution of posters and leaflets aimed at raising awareness about the sector’s development, alongside training provided to approximately 86,000 butchers, known locally as Kosai.

Bashir noted that the government had established set prices for salted rawhides, ensuring those who adhere to the proper methods of selling receive better compensation. Additionally, he mentioned that salted rawhides stored in various Madrasahs are expected to fetch higher prices. Addressing concerns, he assured that efforts are being made to protect the interests of Madrasahs and Orphanages in the rawhide sales process.

The adviser revealed that 7.50 lakh maunds of salt were distributed before Eid, aiming to guarantee fair pricing for rawhide sellers. Furthermore, he discussed the government’s commitment to dismantling a syndicate in the leather sector that had been established over the past 15 years.

Responding to queries about potential smuggling, Bashir confidently stated that the active presence of BGB members effectively mitigates such risks. Following his visit to Arafatnagar, Bashir toured a Madrasah in the Jamalpur area, accompanied by Joypurhat Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akhter Chowdhury, Police Super Md Abdul Wahab, and Sadar UNO Rashedul Islam.
