Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today expressed the government’s satisfaction with the recent verdict in the child Ramisa rape and murder case, stating that the government hopes the decision will be affirmed by a higher court. The swift completion of the trial, taking place within six working days, marks a historic moment in the country’s judicial process, as it is the first instance of such expedited legal proceedings in Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Asaduzzaman highlighted the government’s commitment to delivering justice promptly, noting that although they cannot bring Ramisa back to her family, they have exerted their utmost efforts to secure a timely verdict. During a press briefing at the ministry, the Minister reiterated the desire for the verdict to stand firm in higher judicial review.
The Minister also mentioned the ongoing vacation in the lower courts, which is scheduled from June 1 to June 15. He shared that, following a directive from the Prime Minister to conclude the trial within a month, a proposal was sent to the Chief Justice requesting the exclusion of juvenile tribunals from the vacation period. The Chief Justice approved this exemption, allowing the tribunal to frame charges on June 1 and complete legal arguments by June 4, facilitating the delivery of the verdict within a week of indictment.
