Dhaka: The government today declared two additional holidays following Eid-ul-Azha to ensure smooth movement of people. These holidays are set for June 11 and 12, 2025, which fall on Wednesday and Thursday. In order to compensate for this extended break, two subsequent Saturdays, May 17 and May 24, 2025, will not be observed as holidays, and offices will remain open.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement was made through a public administration ministry statement. The executive order was issued under the Allocation of Business among the Different Ministries and Divisions (Schedule 1 of the Rules of Business, 1966) (Revised up to April 2017) as a part of the Ministry of Public Administration serial 37.

The statement clarified that all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices are required to operate on the two Saturdays in May to offset the holidays in June. However, certain services are exempt from this directive. Workers and vehicles involved in essential services such as electricity, water, gas, fuel, fire service, port operations, sanitation, telephone and internet, and postal operations will continue to function normally.

Similarly, personnel related to hospitals and medical care, as well as the transportation of medicines and equipment, are also excluded from the holiday schedule. Offices tasked with urgent duties are likewise not subjected to the holiday.

Furthermore, the statement mentioned that the Supreme Court and Bangladesh Bank are expected to issue separate directives concerning banking operations and court activities during this period. This decision follows an earlier announcement by the interim government granting a 10-day holiday for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
