Dhaka: Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin today announced the government’s intention to enhance business engagement with various countries to ensure the adequate supply of daily commodities ahead of Ramadan. “The government is taking steps to increase the supply of daily commodities including onion, sugar, and dates ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. That is why, the government wants to increase business engagement with different countries,” he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these remarks during a meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka, Syed Ahmed Maroof, at the Ministry of Commerce. The meeting included discussions on bilateral trade, Karachi-Chattogram direct commercial shipping, the engagement of businessmen from both countries, and the activities of a joint working group.
Bashir highlighted the government’s efforts to distribute essential goods at subsidized prices to a significant number of citizens. “The commodities include rice, onion, sugar, edible oil, a
nd pulses. The initiative of the government helps to make people’s lives a little easier,” he noted.
High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maroof emphasized the cultural and civilizational ties between Bangladesh and Pakistan, rooted in the Indo-Muslim civilization. He stressed that bilateral trade would play a crucial role in reinforcing this relationship, citing the arrival of cargo ships from Pakistan to Bangladesh as a testament to the mutual benefits derived from reduced time and costs.
Furthermore, he expressed Pakistan’s interest in exporting sugar, onion, and dates to Bangladesh, which could strengthen trade relations. The meeting was also attended by Commerce Secretary Md Selim Uddin and Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Anwar Hossain.
