Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced today that the interim government will initiate the implementation of immediately actionable proposals from the Media Reform Commission. The announcement came as the Commission members presented their report to him at the State Guest House Jamuna.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief adviser expressed the government’s intention to swiftly execute those reform proposals that are ready for immediate implementation. Professor Yunus urged the Commission to identify and present the recommendations that can be rapidly accomplished. He highlighted the importance of making the commission’s work, led by senior journalist Kamal Ahmed, accessible to a broader audience, including journalism students.

The report also addressed the limitation faced by Bangladeshi television channels, which are currently not viewable abroad due to satellite restrictions. Professor Yunus assured that the government would take necessary measures to enable Bangladeshis overseas and interested foreign audiences to access Bangladeshi TV channels.

During a press briefing outside the State Guest House Jamuna, CA’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed that the report was extensively discussed during the handover ceremony. He noted that Professor Yunus inquired about the immediate reform measures needed in the media sector, expressing optimism for prompt action based on the commission’s recommendations.

Kamal Ahmed and other commission members were present at the briefing. The interim government established the 11-member Media Reform Commission on November 18, with the goal of enhancing media independence, strength, and objectivity. The commission comprises various experts and industry representatives, including Gitiara Nasreen from the University of Dhaka, Shamsul Haque Zahid of The Financial Express, and representatives from media organizations.
