Dhaka: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has embarked on a mission to preserve memories from the July Uprising by collecting personal experiences from the public through the “Notes on July” initiative. This effort aims to capture events from key locations such as Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rangpur.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative was officially launched during the July Women’s Day programme at the Central Shaheed Minar, where 742 postcards were collected. The campaign will continue until August 5, with efforts to gather public opinions and experiences through these postcards.

Approximately 30 officials and employees from the Department of Films and Publications, a division of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, were present to collect experiences and opinions from attendees using the postcards. The ministry has also reached out to all deputy commissioners nationwide, requesting their support in implementing the programme, which is supervised by district information officers.

Dr. Mohammad Altaf-ul-Alam, Additional Secretary of the Information Ministry, stated that the initiative includes contributions from those involved in the July Mass Uprising. Scouts and Girls Guides from each district are also participating in collecting public opinions via the postcards. The collection will continue at various events across the country until the campaign’s conclusion.

The “July postcards” will be distributed at public gatherings related to the July Mass Uprising, allowing individuals to jot down their personal experiences and opinions. These cards will later be gathered and preserved in Dhaka as part of a July Memory Archive.

This initiative forms a segment of the national programme titled “July Revival,” aiming to immortalize the collective memory of the uprising.
