Dhaka: Agriculture and Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) announced that the government is taking active steps to expand mango exports due to the high international demand for this summer fruit. The adviser delivered these remarks as the chief guest at an event marking the formal commencement of mango export at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council auditorium in Farmgate.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser highlighted that a project is underway to increase mango production and exports, ensuring that farmers receive the necessary agricultural incentives. He emphasized that improved mango seedlings will be provided at reduced prices through horticulture centers to support growers, and directives have been issued to enhance seedling production via incentive programs.

The adviser stressed the need to protect farmers’ interests by ensuring fair pricing for their produce. He pointed out that despite a reduction in agricultural land, research institutions have made significant progress in increasing crop yields across various sectors.

He further emphasized the role of research institutions in focusing on technology development and varietal improvements to boost mango cultivation. Addressing concerns raised by farmers and exporters regarding bagging, packaging, transportation, and incentives, he assured that measures would be taken to tackle these challenges.

The event, chaired by Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, was also attended by Additional Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Saiful Alam, and Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim.
