Dhaka: The government has given the green light to two separate proposals to construct the 'July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum,' focusing on the civil and E/M parts as delegated projects under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. These approvals were granted during the 21st meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs held at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting and also presided over two other meetings concerning the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase and the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee. In a briefing after the meetings, Dr. Ahmed confirmed that the proposals for the museum's construction had been approved in principle, and construction work had already commenced.
Dr. Ahmed also highlighted the government's plan to review all agreements related to independent power plants signed during the previous regime, due to allegations of inconsistencies. This review process comes following a directive from the Supreme Court, which emphasizes the need for legal support and necessary discussions on the matter.
The meetings also addressed the country's food storage situation, which was deemed satisfactory. Dr. Ahmed noted that the storage of key food grains like paddy, rice, and wheat was evaluated, with a particular focus on the previous fiscal year's figures up to June 30. He stressed the importance of market stability, acknowledging that fluctuations in product prices are normal, but assured that the government remains vigilant.
In response to queries, Dr. Ahmed reiterated the government's commitment to reassessing power plant agreements from the last regime, with plans to seek legal assistance as part of this review process.
