Dhaka: The government today approved multiple proposals for importing approximately 1.30 lakh metric tons of TSP and DAP fertiliser from Morocco. This move aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply for the upcoming agricultural season.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approvals were made during the 51st meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year. The meeting was held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at the Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed. The purchase committee approved three consignments of TSP fertiliser, each consisting of 30,000 metric tons with a cost of Taka 181.74 crore each. Additionally, one consignment of 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertiliser was approved at a cost of Taka 324.08 crore. These imports will occur under state-level agreements between the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and OCP Nutricrops of Morocco.

Officials stated that the timely import of fertiliser would play a crucial role in supporting farmers during cultivation seasons. It is expected to ensure higher crop yields while safeguarding food security. The government has been prioritising the availability of fertiliser amid global market volatility to protect farmers from rising costs and to ensure stable agricultural production.
