Sylhet: Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury today announced a government initiative aimed at launching a special housing and investment assistance project specifically for expatriates, intended to make their investments safer and more accessible. The announcement was made at the “Globalizing Sylhet” event held at the Grand Sylhet Hotel and Resort.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted that due to the decreasing availability of land in the country, the government plans to shift from plot-based projects to modern apartment-based housing projects. These projects will exclusively allot accommodations to expatriates, ensuring security, market facilities, civic amenities, and government protection.
Minister Choudhury emphasized that the initiative has already been discussed with the Prime Minister and could potentially begin in Sylhet, given the region’s strong connections with expatriates. He pointed out the difficulties expatriates face, such as harassment and delays in obtaining necessary licences and approvals for their investments, which often leads to disappointment and discouragement.
To tackle these issues, the government has formed a special cell that will advocate on behalf of expatriates, ensuring that their investments are completely safe and processed without unnecessary delays. The minister underscored the importance of such initiatives for keeping the new generation of expatriates connected to their homeland, encouraging investment, and strengthening family ties.
