Dhaka: Germany will provide Euro 52.5 million (approx. BDT 724 crore) to Bangladesh for its endeavor on climate change adaptation. Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky and German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tr¶ster signed an agreement on behalf of the two governments in this regard, a German embassy press release said.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, under this agreement, the fund will be disbursed for the project titled Climate Change Adapted Urban Development Programme VIII. This agreement marks the first funding initiative following the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) of the Bangladesh – German Climate and Development Partnership (CDP), which the two governments signed in December 2024.

The project aims to support local government institutions in strengthening the adaptive capacity and reducing the exposure of vulnerable populations to the effects of climate change by improving living conditions. Additionally, the funding will facilitate climate-sensitive planning and the implementation of infrastructure projects focused on climate adaptation.

The fund is also earmarked for replenishments and future follow-up projects of German Cooperation, reinforcing the ongoing partnership between the two nations in their climate adaptation efforts.
