Natore: The district information office today held a discussion at Sher-e-Bangla High School, to mark the country’s Genocide Day when Pakistani occupation forces killed hundreds of unarmed civilians through the Operation Searchlight on March 25 night, 1971. District information officer Md. Abdul Awal presided over the programme.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event featured speeches from several notable figures, including district education officer Rustom Ali, Freedom Fighter engineer Sheikh Md. Farid, district assistant education officer Suvas Kumar Mandal, head teacher of Sher-E-Bangla High School Abdul Hai Pathan, and Natore Press Club president Farazi Ahamed Rafiq Baban. The speakers highlighted that the brutal killing was preplanned with the intention to wipe out the Bengali nation.

They noted that despite the Pakistan occupation forces’ malicious purpose, their plan ultimately went in vain. In addition to the discussions, a short film was played for attendees.

Earlier in the day, Natore deputy commissioner Asma Shahin and police super Md. Amjad Hossain paid tributes to the martyrs by laying wreaths at the Fulbagan killing field.
