Dhaka: A Dhaka court has ordered that Shariful Islam, a fugitive accused in the Jisan murder case, be sent back to jail after he was re-arrested by police at Feni railway station. This development comes after Shariful managed to escape from custody in June.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shariful, aged 22, is the son of the late Shafik Ahmed from Haripur village under Nawabganj Police Station in Dinajpur. He was brought before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court following his capture. The investigating officer requested that Shariful be detained in jail, a plea that was granted by Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah.
Shariful is one of the accused in the murder case of 14-year-old Jisan Hossain, a case currently at the deposition stage in the court of the 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka. He was apprehended early today in the area of Feni railway station.
Previously, on June 19, Shariful escaped custody by attacking police officers while being escorted from the courtroom of the 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge to the court lockup. He managed to free himself from his handcuffs and fled the premises. Following his escape, Sub-Inspector Md. Ripon Molla, who was responsible for the court lockup, filed a case against him at Kotwali Police Station for escaping custody and assaulting police personnel.
