Fugitive death row convict held in Cumilla

Kashiani Thana police of the district in a

drive yesterday arrested a fugitive who was sentenced to death by a Gopalganj

court in 2017.

The arrested was identified as Shahjahan Mollah, 40, hailed from the upazila.

On a tip-off, a team of the Kashiani Thana police conducted a raid in Laksham

area in Cumilla on Tuesday noon and nabbed him, who was on run for seven

years.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Thana Muhammad Firoj Alam said convict

Shahjahan Mollah killed one Siru Mollah in Aruakandi Canal area in Kashiani

on October 15 in 1999.

Following the murder, Siru’s wife filed a case accusing 37 people.

In 2017, a Gopalganj court sentenced five people to death including Shahjahan

Mollah in the case.

He was handed over to jail today, the OC added.
