Dhaka: The Energy and Mineral Resources Division has taken a significant step in addressing the illegal fuel hoarding situation by requesting the Cabinet Secretary to instruct deputy commissioners across the nation to conduct mobile courts. This initiative aims to prevent the illegal stockpiling of fuel and sales at rates exceeding the government-set prices.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the division’s request comes in response to media reports highlighting that some traders are illicitly hoarding fuel to create an artificial shortage amidst the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. The government has already implemented measures by fixing the supply amount based on vehicle types. However, violations persist, with reports of petrol pumps and filling stations selling fuel at inflated prices, hoarding excess fuel, engaging in open market sales, and smuggling.

In light of these issues, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division has urged the Cabinet Secretary to direct deputy commissioners to take action. The proposed mobile courts would focus on stopping illegal fuel hoarding, preventing sales above the fixed price, halting open market transactions, and curbing smuggling activities.
