Dhaka: Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between China and Bangladesh to enhance renewable energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Speaking at the 4th Bangladesh-China Renewable Energy Forum held in the city, Yao underscored the potential for developing a model of green development through this partnership.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of practical cooperation to bring tangible benefits to the people of both nations, contribute to global climate change solutions, and foster a community with a shared future. He stressed that it is an opportune moment for Bangladesh to transition towards renewable energy and for both countries to collaborate in this sector.

Yao noted the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have created uncertainties in oil and gas supplies, reinforcing the necessity for Bangladesh to seek systematic solutions to its energy challenges. The Ambassador assured that China is prepared to be part of these solutions, committing to deeper cooperation and increased investment through various financial channels.

The forum, organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at a city hotel, featured Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood as the chief guest, with BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun also addressing the gathering. The event, moderated by CPD Research Director Dr. Khondaker Golam Moazzem, provided a platform for stakeholders from government, private sector, and international investors, particularly from China, to engage in policy dialogue on renewable energy transition in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh-China Renewable Energy Forum has become a pivotal event for fostering mutual understanding, strengthening cooperation, and facilitating informed discussions on the country’s renewable energy initiatives.
