Dhaka: Health officials today reported a concerning rise in dengue cases, with 387 new infections and five fatalities recorded within the last 24 hours. This spike highlights the ongoing struggle against the dengue outbreak that has severely impacted various regions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a spokesman from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the recent figures, detailing that the new cases were spread across multiple divisions. Specifically, the data revealed that 40 cases were reported in Barishal division, 71 in Chattogram division, 83 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 55 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 53 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). Additionally, other divisions such as Khulna, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, and Sylhet reported 33, 26, 22, and 4 cases respectively.
Since the beginning of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has witnessed 409 deaths and a total of 100,447 cases. This marks a significant health challenge for the country, as the previous year saw 575 fatalities and 101,214 infections due to dengue. The current statistics underscore the critical need for ongoing public health efforts to combat and control the spread of the disease.
