Dhaka: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today emphasized that ensuring the rule of law would be the foremost responsibility of whoever forms the next government. “The first and foremost responsibility of those who will form the government in the future will be to ensure the rule of law. No other development activities can be effectively implemented unless the security of the people and the law and order situation are normalized,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made these remarks while addressing a discussion titled “Upcoming National Parliament Election and Public Expectations”, organized by the BNP. The event was presided over by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Rahman highlighted the necessity of changing the culture of unfair advantages and corruption that has pervaded society due to prolonged autocratic rule. He stressed that it would be challenging to make correct decisions in governance if corruption is not curbed, and emphasized that tough but necessary decisions must be taken for the country’s sake.

Tarique Rahman outlined several key issues prioritized in the BNP’s electoral manifesto, focusing on basic needs such as people’s security, education, health, employment, anti-corruption measures, and the rule of law. He expressed concern over Dhaka’s chronic traffic congestion, suggesting that daily suffering wastes the nation’s time, labor, and energy, thereby hindering development.

Rahman also addressed the growing safe water crisis in the capital, warning of a potential major crisis due to groundwater depletion and river water pollution. He stressed the severe threats posed by chemical waste dumping in industrial areas, which are damaging soil and water and endangering public health and the environment.

Addressing the issue of drug addiction among youth, Rahman argued that punitive measures alone would not suffice. He advocated for creating opportunities for sports, cultural activities, and debates, pledging BNP initiatives to provide such avenues if elected. He emphasized women’s empowerment, announcing plans for a ‘Family Card’ scheme aimed at economically empowering women, which would benefit families, society, and the nation.

Rahman highlighted the importance of educated and financially capable mothers in family health, education, and well-being. He also announced a ‘Krishak Card’ (Farmer’s Card) to support marginal and small farmers, aiming for self-reliance and economic strengthening.

On healthcare, Rahman stated that BNP’s goal is to ensure fast and effective service delivery, unveiling plans to treat complex diseases through Public-Private Partnership initiatives. He announced plans to recruit one lakh healthcare workers to enhance preventive healthcare for marginalized communities.

In education, Rahman emphasized the need for competent teachers and announced initiatives to train primary school teachers using digital methods. He highlighted employment opportunities in agriculture, health, and technical sectors, noting that a significant number of healthcare recruits would be women. He also stressed the importance of language education and skills training to expand overseas employment opportunities.
