Khulna: A devastating fire gutted an umbrella factory at the city's Mirzapur area last night. The fire broke out at Rahman Umbrella factory around 1:30 am and raged through the factory till the morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, fire service officials stated that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be determined yet. Residents reported that the fire originated from the umbrella factory located on the third floor of the five-storey building, which also had floors used for residential purposes.
The blaze destroyed the third and fourth floors of the building along with some floors of an adjacent building. Senior Station Officer Md. Zakir Hossain reported that eight firefighting units from Khulna Sadar, Tutpara, and Khalishpur rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control around 5 am. Several firefighters fell sick during the operation.
