Dhaka: The Chief Adviser's Press Wing has stated that the allegation of an attack on female footballer Parvin Sultana in Cox's Bazar by extremists for playing football is unfounded. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, recent claims circulated on social media and pro-Awami League websites suggested that extremist Islamists in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, attacked Parvin Sultana, severing her leg tendon while declaring that 'women playing football is haram (forbidden in Islam).' However, the press wing clarified in a statement on its verified Facebook page, CA Press Wing Facts, that investigations have proven these allegations to be false. The statement explained that on April 14, following a murder in Maheshkhali, local residents attacked Parvin's house. This incident has been misrepresented as an act of religious extremism. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshkhali Police Station Manjurul Haque and local journalists confirmed that there is no connection between the attack and religious extremism. On the sam e day, Abdur Rashid, a local BNP activist, was killed over a political dispute with local Chhatra League leader Amit Hasan. The altercation, which involved Amit Hasan and his brothers Kamrul Hasan and Helal Uddin, escalated into a physical fight, resulting in Rashid's death from injuries sustained during the confrontation. The murder case filed by Rashid's family named Amit Hasan, Helal Uddin, and Kamrul Hasan as the accused, along with Parvin Sultana. Following the murder, an angry mob attacked Parvin's family home, leading to Kamrul Hasan's capture by police and subsequent house vandalism. OC Manjurul Haque stated that the April 14 attack by locals is being misrepresented as a religiously motivated incident and clarified that there is no link to extremism. He also debunked the claim of Parvin's tendon being severed, noting that the case filed by her family only mentions property damage. Kamrul Hasan and Helal Uddin have been arrested in connection with Rashid's murder, while Parvin and another brother ar e currently at large. A local journalist corroborated that the tendon injury claim is baseless, suggesting that Parvin made the claim to falsely implicate her rivals. The press wing's statement concluded by affirming that the allegations against Parvin Sultana regarding her attack and tendon injury due to playing football are false.
