Sunamganj: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today announced that their party is committed to implementing the July charter and July declaration by August 5, as part of its ongoing movement advocating for reforms, justice, and a new constitution.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid Islam emphasized that the NCP will continue to push for justice concerning the July-August atrocities, alongside efforts for reforms and a new constitutional framework. He noted that numerous political parties are gradually shifting from their traditional stances to align with reformist objectives. Nahid made these remarks during a rally at Altaf Uddin Square in Sunamganj town, part of the NCP's nationwide street march.
The rally, presided over by Sunamganj district NCP convener Dewan Sajaur Raja Sumon and conducted by district joint convener Anik Roy, highlighted the historic role of Sunamganj's people in anti-fascist movements. Nahid paid tribute to local martyrs Ayatullah, Hridoy, and Sohag, who lost their lives during the July mass uprising. He also recalled the district's protests against Delhi's dominance during Narendra Modi's 2021 visit.
NCP southern region chief coordinator Hasnat Abdullah addressed the threat posed by regrouping fascist forces, who, he claimed, are trying to exploit the Milestone jet crash tragedy. He urged all anti-fascist political parties to unite against the ruling Awami League for the sake of Bangladesh's democracy and to advocate for reform proposals to ensure a democratic transition.
Abdullah also criticized attempts to revive Mujibism, asserting that socio-cultural resistance must be formed against such efforts. The day's program included meetings with families of those martyred and injured in the July uprising. Following Jummah prayers, the NCP initiated its march from the central mosque in Sunamganj, traversing the town's main roads.
The rally was led by Nahid Islam and joined by NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain, southern region chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, senior joint member secretaries Dr. Tasnim Zara and Samantha Sharmin, joint convener Ehteshamul Haque, and other central leaders. Leaders of Jubo Shakti, including Abu Saleh Nasim, Ishaq Amini, Shahidul Islam, Emonoddoza, and Shakib, were also present.
