Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has urged the Dhaka University authorities to expand the field of research and use the research knowledge for the welfare of the country and its people. “In this era of globalisation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, I call upon the Dhaka University authorities to work for innovation, expand the field of research and apply the knowledge gained from research for the welfare of the country and its people,” he said in a message issued today on the occasion of the 104th founding anniversary of Dhaka University, the country’s highest echelon of academic excellence, to be celebrated tomorrow.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser emphasized that the students must dedicate themselves to building a prosperous Bangladesh by ensuring the best use of the knowledge acquired with honesty and integrity. He expressed his firm belief that Dhaka University will continue to pioneer in providing world-class higher education and will significantly contribute to building a knowledge-based society and country.

On the occasion of the 104th founding anniversary of Dhaka University, Prof Yunus extended his warmest greetings and congratulations to all members of the university family, including teachers, students, guardians, and alumni. He highlighted the university’s unique role in expanding higher education, knowledge practice, and research since its establishment.

Prof Yunus noted that the political, socioeconomic, and cultural awakening in Bangladesh has revolved around Dhaka University, leading to the emergence of an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. He acknowledged the historical role of DU students and teachers in all of Bangladesh’s democratic movements, including the Language Movement, the Great Liberation War, and the July Uprising.

He remarked on the progress made after overcoming past injustices and tyranny, with a focus on building a ‘New Bangladesh’ free of discrimination. Prof Yunus underlined the need for Bangladesh to develop skilled human resources imbued with patriotism, humanity, and open-mindedness, and suggested that DU can play a more active role in preparing the new generation for future leadership.

“In this context, I think that the theme of this year’s founding anniversary of Dhaka University – ‘Dhaka University in Building a Discrimination-free and Inclusive Society’ – is a time-befitting one,” the Chief Adviser stated. He expressed his wishes for the success of the overall programmes planned for ‘Dhaka University Day’.
