Dhaka: The Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance has entered into a grant agreement valued at five million Euro with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This agreement, aimed at enhancing migration management and facilitating sustainable reintegration, was formalized yesterday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the project titled ‘Strengthened Service Delivery Systems for Improved Migration Management and Sustainable Reintegration’ is set to be implemented over four years, with financial backing from the European Union. It is designed to bolster the efforts of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in enhancing migration and reintegration initiatives.
The primary objective of this initiative is to fortify gender-responsive and rights-based migration and reintegration services in Bangladesh. This will ensure that migration practices remain safe and orderly and that migrants and returnees can reintegrate sustainably.
The project outlines two key outcomes: improving migration service delivery systems and providing support to vulnerable returnees. These goals aim to create a more robust framework for managing migration challenges in the region.
The agreement was signed by Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of the ERD, and Lance Bonneau, Chief of Mission of IOM Bangladesh. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the UN Wing of ERD and other relevant governmental agencies.
