Rangpur: Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Harun-or-Rashid emphasized the critical importance of safe births in ensuring the effective management of post-natal complications and securing a prosperous future for children. "For this, the government and NGOs are working together to ensure safe childbirth," he stated during a discussion organized to mark World Health Day 2025, where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event observed the theme "Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures" and was jointly organized by the Civil Surgeon's Office, Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Health Education Bureau of the Directorate General of Health Services. The event received support from the Nutrition in City Ecosystems (NICE) project. The observance began with a rally from the Divisional Director (Health) office, culminating at the Rangpur Old Sadar Hospital premises after traversing various city streets.
Presided over by Civil Surgeon Dr. Shaheen Sultana, the event took place in the conference room of Rangpur Old Sadar Hospital. Special guests included Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr. Md. Wazed Ali and Assistant Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr. Md. Meshkatul Abed. Additionally, Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, World Health Organization's Rangpur Representative, delivered a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the day's significance.
Dr. Harun-or-Rashid underscored the importance of World Health Day in disseminating health messages and raising awareness. He remarked, "There is no alternative to public awareness as prevention is always better than cure." He noted that while many remain uninterested in health awareness, a dedicated group of NGOs is actively working in specific areas to increase public awareness, with health workers engaged at the field level.
He urged all stakeholders to collaborate on improving the health system through joint initiatives. The event saw attendance from officials, doctors, nurses, students, and representatives from health-related projects and NGOs.
