Sylhet: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has instructed police officers to arrest those responsible for vandalizing shops and business establishments in Sylhet and several other cities in the country. "We have video footage of the attackers. They are being identified and will be arrested immediately. Police teams are currently working on this," he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP emphasized that the government does not impede any lawful protests but will not tolerate criminal acts under the guise of protest. This statement was issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing, reinforcing the government's stance on maintaining law and order.
BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun expressed disappointment over the incidents, particularly during a time when Bangladesh is hosting a summit to present itself as an investment destination. He highlighted that many of the affected businesses were local investors, with some investments coming from foreigners who trusted in the country's potential.
He further noted that these businesses provided employment opportunities to the youth, and those responsible for the vandalism are considered adversaries to job creation, economic growth, and stability.
