Rangpur: The eight-party alliance has reached an agreement to conduct a referendum on the same day as the Jatiya Sangsad election. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General, Moulana Abdul Halim, announced this decision while speaking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon. He was visiting the venue of a rally organized by the eight-party alliance, scheduled to take place at the Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah ground.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moulana Halim emphasized the necessity of a referendum to validate the interim government's order to implement the July Charter. Initially, the eight parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, had suggested holding the referendum on a separate day. However, respecting the decision of the Chief Advisor, they have agreed to synchronize it with the election day to maintain stability in the country. Moulana Halim expressed confidence that the populace would vote in favor of the referendum.
He criticized the Jatiya Party for enabling Sheikh Hasina's 15-year rule, claiming it resulted from the Jatiya Party's supportive stance towards the Awami League. Moulana Halim accused the Jatiya Party of contributing to the undermining of democratic processes in the 2014, 2018, and 2024 elections. He stated that the public's former support for the Jatiya Party has waned due to their unwavering loyalty to Hasina's regime, and there is now a significant demand to ban the activities of both the Awami League and Jatiya Party.
The eight-party leaders are deeply committed to ensuring the success of the divisional mass rally in Rangpur. Moulana Halim expressed hope that the rally would mobilize a large crowd, sending a strong message to the government about their five-point demands. The rally will feature Mufti Syed Rezaul Karim, the leader of the eight-party alliance, as the chief guest. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central Nayebe Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman will preside over the event.
Prominent figures such as Jamaat-e-Islami central working committee member ATM Azharul Islam, Islami Andolan Presidium Member Ashraf Ali Akand, and other leaders from the eight parties will be present at the rally. The visit to the venue saw participation from local leaders of the district and metropolitan units of all eight parties.
