Dhaka: The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase has recommended the approval of two significant import proposals amounting to 80,000 metric tons of fertilizer. This decision aims to secure an uninterrupted supply of essential agricultural inputs for the forthcoming cultivation season.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approval came during the 48th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, which was conducted virtually. The session was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
The Committee approved the importation of 40,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited in the UAE. The procurement will be executed under the Ministry of Industries at a cost of US$409.50 per metric ton, bringing the total contract value to Taka 201.14 crore.
Furthermore, the Committee endorsed a state-level agreement between Morocco's OCP Nutricrops and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) for the import of another 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer. This consignment will be acquired under the 9th lot at a price of US$682.67 per metric ton, with a total value of Taka 335.32 crore.
Officials indicated that these imports are expected to stabilize the fertilizer market and bolster agricultural production across the nation.
