Dhaka: The holy Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most significant religious festivals for Muslims, is set to be celebrated across Bangladesh on June 7. This announcement follows the sighting of the moon marking the beginning of the holy month of Zilhaj of the 1446 Hijri calendar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee. The meeting was held at the Islamic Foundation’s conference room located at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka. National Moon Sighting Committee and Religious Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain presided over the meeting, as confirmed by an Islamic Foundation press release.
Eid-ul-Azha is observed on the 10th day of the Zilhajj month in the Hizri calendar. This festival commemorates the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his beloved son, Hazrat Ismail (AS), in submission to Almighty Allah’s command. However, in a display of divine mercy, Almighty Allah spared Hazrat Ismail (AS) and provided a ram to be sacrificed in his stead.
