Egyptian Ambassador Engages in Talks to Boost Trade with Bangladesh

Dhaka: Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy met with Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today. During the meeting, they discussed issues related to strengthening of bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries, an official release said.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the commerce adviser emphasized that Egypt is a long-standing friend of Bangladesh, and the bilateral relationship with Egypt is excellent. He highlighted that boosting trade is essential to make this friendly relationship between the two countries stronger and more sustainable. Bashir stressed the importance of exploring new potentials in trade.

The adviser focused on increasing the export of Bangladeshi products to Egypt, particularly in sectors such as jute and jute-made goods, ready-made garments, medicines, and ceramics. In response, the Egyptian ambassador acknowledged the historical relations between Egypt and Bangladesh, expres
sing Egypt’s belief in Bangladesh as a friendly nation.

Egypt exports petrochemicals, fertilizer, and high-quality raw cotton to Bangladesh. The Egyptian Ambassador mentioned that Bangladesh, as the world’s second-largest exporter of ready-made garments, can seize more opportunities to export quality RMG items by utilizing high-quality cotton from Egypt.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan and Additional Secretary (FTA) of the Ministry of Commerce Ayesha Akhter were present at the meeting.
