The Election Commission(EC)today expressed satisfaction over the explanation given by the mayoral candidate of Awami League Azmat Ullah Khan in Gazipur City polls regarding his alleged violation of the electoral code of conduct.
“We are satisfied with the explanation given by the mayoral candidate Azmat Ullah Khan… We are yet to take any decisions,” Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal told reporters.
As per a directive, Azmat came to the EC office and gave his explanation for the alleged violation of the electoral codes.
Awal said that Azmat politely gave his explanation and expressed his regret promising to be respectful of the electoral code of conduct in future.
The EC issued the show cause notice to Azmat, also the president of Gazipur city AL, for violating the electoral rules while submitting his nomination papers.
The CEC expressed the hope of developing electoral culture in future by following the electoral code of conduct.
The Gazipur City Corporation election will be held on May 25.
