Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a directive to ensure that polling centres are designated as smoke-free areas during the upcoming national election and referendum scheduled for February 12. This initiative is part of the EC's effort to promote a healthier environment for voters and staff on election day.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the EC has recently communicated this directive through a formal letter sent to all returning officers. This measure is expected to be implemented across all polling centres to ensure compliance with the directive and to facilitate a smoke-free environment during the voting process. The move underscores the EC's commitment to creating a conducive and safe atmosphere for the public as they exercise their voting rights.
