Dhaka: The much-awaited polls schedule for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and the residential halls union will be announced on July 29, with elections likely to take place in the second week of September. The university syndicate reached this decision during a meeting held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the campus, chaired by DUCSU Chief Returning Officer and Professor of the Botany Department, Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by representatives from the DU Election Commission, university administration, provosts, deans, and major student bodies. The polls returning officer stated that it typically takes 40-45 days to organize the polls after the schedule is announced and expressed the commission’s determination to hold the election within this timeframe.
The commission has decided to conduct the voting at six centralized centers to ensure transparency and fairness in the DUCSU elections. These centers will accommodate voters from various residential halls on the DU campus. The designated centers include Curzon Hall Center, Physical Education Center, Student-Teacher Center (TSC), Dhaka University Club Center, Senate Bhaban Center, and Udayan School and College Center, each catering to specific halls.
Regarding voter eligibility, the election commission clarified that students from the 2018-19 academic session whose master’s results have already been published are ineligible to vote or contest in the DUCSU or hall union polls.
In anticipation of the elections, DU authorities have intensified security measures on the campus. Since June 6, 2025, 50 new CCTV cameras have been installed, bringing the total to 182 active cameras across the campus. Additional lighting has been installed at various locations, and the surveillance by the Proctoral Mobile Team has been increased.
The meeting was attended by several key university figures, including DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Pro-VCs, returning officers, deans, hall provosts, and representatives from student organizations, alongside members of the executive committee of the Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA).
