Dhaka: A court here today convicted drug peddler Md Rob Miah and sentenced him to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Taka 10,000, in connection with a case involving the seizure of 225 purias of heroin from his possession in 2016. Judge Md Rohibul Islam of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 pronounced the judgment this afternoon, court official Samsuddin informed BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents revealed that, acting on a tip-off, a team from Kafrul Police Station conducted a raid in the Mirpur Kazipara overbridge area at approximately 11:15 pm on February 23, 2016. During the operation, police detained Md Rob Miah in possession of 225 purias of heroin.
Subsequently, police filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act. A charge-sheet was submitted on March 31, 2016, and the court formally charged Rob on August 3, 2016. Out of the eight witnesses listed in the case, five testified during different hearings.
