Mongla Port to Be Developed into Nat’l Economic Hub: Shipping Minister

Khulna: Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam announced plans to transform Mongla Port into a national economic hub to harness its potential and generate employment in the region. The minister addressed the issues facing Mongla Port, promising resolution within a month with the cooperation of relevant parties.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized the port's potential and the importance of fostering a service-friendly environment in government offices to boost revenue. Speaking at a stakeholders' conference hosted by the Mongla Port Authority at Hotel City Inn in Khulna, he urged collaboration among stakeholders for the port's development, highlighting the employment opportunities a national economic hub could offer local residents.

Mongla Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mostofa delivered the welcome address. The conference saw attendance from notable figures, including Khulna-2 lawmaker Sheikh Jahangir Hossain Helal, Khulna Development Authority Chairman S.M. Shafikul Alam, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Sajjadur Rahman, and other distinguished guests.

Mongla Port Authority Harbour Master Captain Mohammad Shafiqul Islam presented a paper at the event. Participants, including representatives from port users, government agencies, industrial establishments, importers, exporters, and media organizations, shared their insights and recommendations for the port's development.
