Dhaka: The traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today filed 2,478 cases against different vehicles for violating traffic rules during the last 24 hours in the capital. The cases were filed as part of the DMP's regular enforcement campaign carried out on Saturday aimed at ensuring traffic discipline, reducing congestion, and improving road safety across the city, according to DMP's media and public relations division press release issued here today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP said such drives against traffic law violators will continue, urging motorists and pedestrians alike to comply with traffic regulations to help maintain order on the roads. It said that the DMP traffic police dumped 413 motor vehicles during the campaign.
During the drives, the Traffic-Ramna Division filed 100 cases, including three against buses, four covered vans, 10 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 27 motorcycles, according to a media spokesperson of the DMP. The spokesperson said 133 cases were filed by the Traffic-Lalbagh Division, including nine against buses, 12 trucks, four trucks, two covered vans, 19 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 59 motorcycles, while Traffic-Motijheel Division filed 314 cases against 22 buses, one truck, 18 covered vans, 61 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 168 motorcycles.
Meanwhile, the Traffic-Wari Division filed 270 cases, including against 20 buses, 12 trucks, 21 covered vans, 38 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 114 motorcycles, while the Traffic-Tejgaon Division filed 120 cases, including seven against buses, four covered vans, 27 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 52 motorcycles.
Besides, the Traffic-Mirpur Division filed 517 cases, including 48 against buses, 20 trucks, 34 covered vans, 47 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 251 motorcycles, while Traffic-Uttara Division registered 642 cases, including 58 against buses, 14 trucks, 16 covered vans, 105 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 268 motorcycles.
In addition, the Traffic-Gulshan Division filed 382 cases, including 48 against buses, six trucks, 19 covered vans, 38 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 98 motorcycles. The drives were conducted as part of the DMP's ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws and ensure discipline on the city's roads, the DMP release added.
