Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted mobile court operations in the Mitford and Babubazar areas of Old Dhaka to address violations of the Road Transport Act, illegal parking, and traffic obstruction caused by goods left on the road.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operations were initiated by DMP’s Lalbagh Division and led by Special Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police stations from Kotwali and Bangshal coordinated in the efforts. During these operations, two individuals received imprisonment, two others were fined, and four people were arrested for encroaching on roads and disrupting traffic.
A leader of a rickshaw syndicate was sentenced to seven days of rigorous imprisonment under Section 92 of the Road Transport Act for establishing an unauthorized rickshaw stand on Mitford Road. In the Babubazar Bridge area, a driver from Bahadur Shah Paribahan was sentenced to one month’s rigorous imprisonment under Section 66 of the Road Transport Act for driving without a valid license.
Traffic sources from the Lalbagh Division reported that two truck drivers were fined Taka 6,000 each for illegal parking and causing road obstruction. They were released upon paying the fines. Multiple cases were filed as part of the operations.
Additionally, four individuals were arrested for road occupation and causing disruption by setting up a van and rickshaw garage. Legal proceedings against these individuals are ongoing.
