Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all forms of public gatherings, including meetings, rallies, processions, marches, and demonstrations, in Kakrail and its surrounding areas for tomorrow. This decision comes amid rising tensions following recent events in the area. The ban was announced in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan, aiming to maintain public order and safety.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the ban was enforced under Section 29 of the DMP Ordinance shortly after a fire broke out at the Jatiya Party’s central office in Dhaka’s Kakrail area. The incident occurred on Thursday evening when unidentified individuals allegedly set fire to the building. Witnesses reported that a group of people, many wearing helmets and wielding sticks, entered the office through the main entrance. They were seen chanting slogans while tearing down banners and festoons, vandalizing furniture, and subsequently setting fire to several parts of the building.
The si
tuation in Dhaka remains tense, with reports of clashes between police and protesters. The Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad has reported that at least 100 individuals were injured in a clash with police near the Jatiya Press Club. The DMP’s decision to enforce the ban is seen as a precautionary measure to prevent further violence and ensure public safety in the affected areas.
