Lakshmipur: The district taskforce committee today convened a meeting at the deputy commissioner's office with the objective of enhancing hilsha production and ensuring the preservation of Jatka.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was chaired by the deputy commissioner of Lakshmipur district, Rajib Kumar Sarker, and saw attendance from key officials including additional deputy commissioner (General) JP Dewan, district fisheries officer Billal Hossen, and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jamshed Alam Rana.
The committee discussed the ongoing restriction on fishing in the Meghna River, stretching from Ramgati in Lakshmipur district to Shatnal in Chandpur district, which is in effect from March 1 to April 30. This measure aims to protect fisheries resources, particularly the hilsha population.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the enforcement of government laws related to fisheries conservation. The deputy commissioner issued directives for the presence of magistrates during the distribution of rice to fishermen, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting local fishing communities.
The taskforce committee members were tasked with implementing these directives, and it was emphasized that any attempts to violate the law would result in strict legal consequences, including imprisonment and fines.
